ABC's of Auto Lease Transfers

Car Lease Overview (for new and used cars)

Leasing a New or Used Car needs significant consideration by the purchaser, however the terms of the lease may vary greatly.

The three most important terms of any lease are:
The purchase price, residual value and interest rate or also called money factor.
The purchase price should always be negotiated BEFORE the lease is calculated.
The residual value is determined by the Residual Lease Guide and then adjusted per the Lessors own guidelines and current mileage on the proposed vehicle.
The interest rate or the Money Factor should be discussed to assure the lowest rate possible.  Interest rates on a lease have more impact than a loan because the interest calculation is based on a declining balance to residual, not to zero as in a conventional loan.

The reasons to consider leasing a used car are typically:

1) Potentially Lower Payment than new model

2) Shorter Term (i.e. 12-35 months)

3) Lower Residual (This is only a positive if you plan on buying the lease at the end of term).
